I have created two layers. The first layer is named "roadtext" and contain a series of names. The second layer is named "roads" and contains drawings of roads. Now I want to select and copy the series of names from one layer to another layer without altering the first layer. How can I achieve that?

Turn off the road layer, select everything, copy it, paste it, change the layer it's on, turn the roads layer back on, and you should see what you're looking for.

I don't think I've answered your question because I don't think I really understand your question, but I gave it a shot.

Also you can use QSELECT to select everything on a layer without having to turn other layers off.
