    Default rendering, spotlight, OHSNAP

I am currently a student learning CAD 3d for the first time I am using CAD 2008. I am very frustrated because my instructor isn't the best and he has just left us to finish our assignments with no further help. So here are some of the many problems I have run into.

    1. rendering: When I render the window pops up just fine but when it renders the only thing that is on the screen is a black box were the rendering is supposed to be.... I don't know what I need to do to make my drawing show up on it. Do I need to selcet the drawing then press render?

    2. My spotlight Attenuation needs to be changed. I know in the 07 version you can click it and a drop down pops up. Well that isn't happening for me for some reason it won't let me change it and I need to change it.

    3. I have attached a drawing of a sofa. On the back I am trying to criss cross lines to find the center of back spaces for three cushions. the bottom cushion is 4 inches thick so I offset from the line I drew and I draw two lines up on the back then I try and draw my criss crosses. The OSNAP does not want to grab the interceting parts even with that one box checked.

Like I said I don't know what to do and my instructor left us to fend for ourselves. I'm not to happy about that. thanks a bunch! for any help you can give me.

try changing the LIGHTINGUNITS to 0 and see what that does.
what it should do if i remember correctly is turns off teh photometric lighting. you can also turn on the sky / sun on and see if that gives you any light as well.

    2. My spotlight Attenuation needs to be changed. I know in the 07 version you can click it and a drop down pops up. Well that isn't happening for me for some reason it won't let me change it and I need to change it.

I cant remember all of it, but i belive the Attenuation is changed in the properties palette while ither selecting, or adding the light.

This is my third CAD class. I think my instructor has started us off too fast. I know most of the commands and I understand them but, when he teaches he gives us his notes and then we have to take our own while he "shows" us how to do what ever he is doing.

His notes are not very good in fact they are above my level and make it difficult to find my place in them. What I mean by notes are the steps of the project. This is my first time with this instructor and I don't find him helpful. My other instructor for my previous classes was wonderful! he would give us very detailed instructions (steps) and showed us what we were going to make then made it for use step by step. If your student end up having a lot of problems or questions it is probably because they need more detailed steps.

I would like to become an instructor to I analyze my instructors so you asked the right person the right question

    Noahm,

Where is the LIGHTINGUNITS located? in the rendering properties?

How exsactly do I turn off the photometric lighting? remember I am a noob. This is just my third week of this class :-)

the Attenuation is in the properties but there is no way I can change it that I can find I tried right clicking and left clicking. deleting the light and making a new one. If you don't have any other ideas that's ok I guess I will figure it out later when I get better at this.

Thanks a bunch for all of your help!!! I really appriciate it!

LIGHTINGUNITS is a system variable. If you want to change it, you can type LIGHTINGUNITS at the command line and then change the setting to 0, 1 or 2. See below:

    From the Autocad Help files:

    Code:

0 = No lighting units are used and standard (generic) lighting is enabled
1 = International lighting units are used and photometric lighting is enabled
2 = American lighting units are used and photometric lighting is enabled

I changed the lightingunits and it didn't do anything for the rendering

When I turned on the Sky the screen truned gray and my drawing disapeared.

Any other ideas to make my drawing render?

You should saved and close.Next reopen your dwg and change to realistic visualization setting. Then you can check ok or not.If there is not ok,you should change _options_system_3d performance setting_view tune_transparent setting_High(slower).next regen your dwg and change wireframe mode. Finally you can do any visual mode and render.
