ive done a search for .arg files.
I assume they are encoded for whatever reason or integrated into something else.
I hope im wrong as it would make life a lot easier.

an arg file is nothing more than a text file. It contains all your settings for toolbars etc and all the registry settings required by Acad.

There will be no arg files on your system unless you have saved a profile and exported it.

Autocad uses the arg file to modify registry settings when you import it.

But say i wanted to 'import' some .arg files without using the import feature in autocad, could i simply save them somewhere where autocad would find them by default and a modify the registry settings?

Or would i have to physicaly use the 'import' feature in AutoCad itself?

the only way I can see of doing it without physically opening Acad and using the import profile option would be to programatically add all the profile settings to the registry.
That's where Acad "stores" them and that's where it retrieves them from. The arg file is just a means of saving and transporting the registry settings.

I certainly wouldn't like to do it ~ there's a lot of settings in there and messing up just one could mean screwing the whole thing up.

    I could be wrong though
