Can a member advise me on how to apply settings to an autocad drawing/drawings prior to emailing it, to make sure that it cannot be edited in any way by the receiver of the email.

PDF, I think...
The client has requested the drawing in dwg format.

In the explorer selct the drawing & right click> prperties> & you can tick read only.
but it will be temporary bcs they can always do save as or wblock out the drawing & edit.
so I don't think there is any fool prooof method. Unless some one else know better.

You could run a lisp executable like deter.vlx on you drawing, but you might want to forewarn your recipient....
There are several free options available to you but none of them are perfect, and most of them will cause grief on the other end. If you search for "protecting a drawing" you will find several related threads.

Auto desk has a vault program.
It allows you to pack and go, you can then put a password on to it also.

We quite happily send dwg files to clients when they request them. They want them to use as xrefs for other consultants to work on. BUT, and a big BUT, they know that if our drawings are altered in any way resulting in a construction problem, then it is their problem, not ours.
We still have the original drawings.
So we have never had a problem sending our drawings out, but it is only to clients who have a legitimate reason to have them.
