colour change

Hi,
I'm mid way thru a small drawing and suddenly any new lines I draw come out brown, irrespective of what colour the layer is. The line thickness is correct but the colour has changed. It still shows on the layer as being yellow (or whatever) but definitely draws as brown.
I can't remeber doing anything that I wouldn't normally do so I'm a bit lost as to how to get my colours back.

Any ideas out there?

Type Color at the command line... is it Bylayer or specific color?

Not sure what you mean Ipseifert.
However, typing colour brings up the colour palette. I can then change the current line colour but I don't want to do that for every line - I need to revert to the colours designated for each layer.

what does it say at the text field in the Color palette? That shows what your next line that you'll draw will be.

Look at the top of your screen...layers toolbar. The very first of three boxes, does it say "ByLayer"? If it doesn't then the color has probably been preselected to be brown. Change this to "ByLayer".

I'm not sure about a layers toolbar and three boxes...

But, when I type 'colour' on the command bar and the colour pallette comes up, I changed the box to 'by layer' from 'by block' and that has done it.

Why would it suddenly change in the first place though?

Still, I can get on and earn more pennies now.

Toolbars...those items that populate the top of your AutoCAD screen. If you haven't changed the default settings the Layer toolbar is standard. Did you even know you could add, remove, change or design your own versions of toolbars?

The Layer toolbar has three settings for color, linetype and width. You can also change these settings in Layer Manager.

my layers toolbar doesn't have just the three colour, linetype and width options on it. Nor does it have three boxes with a 'by layer' option, which is why I couldn't see where you were pointing me ReMark. to access all these I have to go into Layer Properties Manager.

still, all is well again and it seems to be behaving itself now.
