to get my @ symbol I have to press " (shift 2), I only get the ' symbol if I press the marked key. It was OK, any ideas what has happened? I checked the windows keyboard language and even tried swopping from English British, to USA.

That problem used to happen when I had my kekbaord set up for USA.It should happen when you are using the english setting. That is weird, where did you reset the language?

    Excellent result!

I get confused (memory lapse) on my laptop when using alt + keys for symbols.
I usually forget to set the number lock key on for symbols for using alt + keys; i.e.: alt+248 = ° (degree), alt+0216 = Ø (diameter), alt+0177 = ± (plus or minus), etc.

    Gettin' old, 62, I guess.
