    Default Solid external image

    Hi,

I was wondering how could I use ie. a JPG-file in rendering.

Here's what I'd like to do:
I have a Nasa-logo in JPG, and I was trying to use it like this

But when rendered, the logo disappears, of course

The image is about 1 mm above the surface, so it's not in it.
I thought that I might have to convert the image in solid or a face, but how? Or should I use it as a material in some way?

    Thanks in advance.

The easy way: create a new material based on the image.
Enter RMAT at the command prompt and a window will pop up. Make a New Standard material. Give it a name and assign the black and white version of the image to the Bump Map. This will make the image to appear in relief.
Depending on what you wish, attach the image file to Color/Pattern and/or reflexion map

The "other" way: trace the image –it is not a complicated one so you may try to trace over "by hand" using polylines, ellipses, and circles and extrude the traced image. Also you can find programs on the net for raster-vector conversion.

    Thanks a lot again, Fuccaro

I'm having small problems with the "easy way" while adjusting the bitmap.
    Here's what I've adjusted

and this is what I get

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong. I already tried cropping and fitting to object, but it didn't seem to work. The object size should be correct (it's a plate about 41.3x41.3x1)

But thank you very much, your my personal hero.

    ***EDIT***

    The correct size of the plate is 41.3 x 34.8 x 1
    I'll try it with 34.8

I can recommend you two ways (again )
    1. Create a small box just to hold the logo and place it in the right place. Map the logo on this using the "fit to object" radio button.

    2. Adjust the offset and scale until the image comes in right position

And a third possible solution: export the model in other soft for rendering.

    Thanks again,

I had the dimensions incorrect (see the editing in my previous post).
I hope it'll work this time.

    ***EDIT***

Just realised how to work with the offset. I'm getting closer...

Have you applied MAPPING to the object ? you need to apply mapping to position the bitmap accurately

    Thanks for the tip, Hendie.
    I'll try that too.

    Now I got it,
with "Fit to Object" the scaling had to be 1 and 1, of course.

    Thanks guys!

PS. What is NASA's phone number? I'd have a decent proposition for them (although I'm not sure what the device is, yet )...

Hope you don't mind me asking. Why does everything in your model has a huge amount of reflection? Nothing really, just curious.

Just got back to AutoCAD. Modeling directly in C4D.
