Default layer colours and screen colours

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Hi,
I need to work on someone elses dwg. The whole drawing shows as white on my screen, yet the layers prop. manager shows the various layers all have different colours.
How to get the colours to show on screen? There is so much information on there its difficult to see what I'm looking at in all white.

    Cheers,

If you are in modelspace then, ff you select a line, is the color set to ByLayer, or White? Select all and check as well. If it is set to White then that is why.
If you are in Paperspace, then right-click on the layout tab and select Page Setup Manager. Click Modify, and then at the top right untick 'Display Plot Styles'.

    Sorted!
Cheers LCE. Apart from some rather unfashionable colour combinations, all is now well and I can see what is going on.

    Many thanks,

It is not unusual for some newbie CAD users to do unusual things. Another one I see often is to draw everything on layer "0" and to use a number of short line (no polylines) segments. It's as if they started, stopped then started again. One straight line can contain several segments. Some people really need to get the basics down before attempting to put together a drawing. Arbitrarily changing colors from ByLayer to some random color is a favorite.

Fortunately my CAD Standards now define the use of stb file in place of ctb, so the below example isn't soo much of a scare anymore, but I have had it before, when using ctb's, that a user would change the color of all the lines on a drawings, to "pretty" tones because he thought it looked nice on screen and made him happy.

I'm still stuck on ctb. Never really made the switch to stb although I've received a handful of drawings from outside vendors that were set up this way. Guess this old dog needs to learn another new trick.
