    Default binding xrefs

    Hello all

I have a Proposed Plan which has demolition lines on it.

I have xrefed the Proposed Plan into another drawing which i will only show the demolition lines on (a Demolition Plan)

I now want to make a record copy of this Demolition Plan drawing so any additional changes made will not be reflected on the record copy.

I am doing this by binding the drawing but it does not seem to want to do it. I have tried the 'insert' and 'bind' choices but to no affect.

Is there a setting I need to change or am I not inserting the xref correctly??? Other colleagues do not seem to have this problem so its very frustrating.

I end up having to make a pdf copy but this is no good if other consultants need the .dwg of the record drawing.

    Please help.

Is there any x-refs nested into the one you are trying to bind?

Have tou tried Audit (and Purge if possible) on the drawing before binding it?

Can you explain what you mean by nested?

Yes have just tried audit and then purge but still not working.

Don't know if it helps but when i choose bind it says 'No matching xref names found'

I also can't detach the drawing or unload it in the xref manager.

As Tiger said, it sounds like a nested xref-

That is to say that the xref you are looking at is an attached xref in another dwg that is then xrefed into the curent dwg bringing the first one with it.
It will tell you in the xref manager if you try to change the path that you can't because it's nested...

I hope I explained that well enough

uhm...are you sure it's an x-ref? it can't be a block can it? Bring out Properties to check.

The original drawing that i have xrefed into the new drawing is on its own and has no other xrefs in it

I have tried changing the path in the xref manager but it doesnt say its nested??

It is definately an xref as i inserted using the 'Insert' 'dwg reference' command and it appears in the xref manager box.

ok.....ok, this is starting to sound like one of those This-is-just-how-it-is-bugs..

try x-reffing it into a completely new drawing and see if you can bind it there.

Try copy-paste everything from the drawing you want to bind and add it to a completely new drawing and see if you can bind it then.

These are work-arounds but sometimes it's just one individual drawing file that has become corrupt somehow..
