Plotting to a PDF in 09

I'm trying to plot a simple 2d drawing to a PDF, but I cant get a reasonable result.

If I use the built in PDF writer, all of my text appears bloated and has fuzzy edges.

If I use a 3rd party PDF writer (Cute PDF, Primo PDF, etc), the text looks fine but all solid hatch fills have zingers.

Help :?

What make/model printer are you using?

Not that I recall any issues with PDFs and 2009 but have you installed the service pack for 2009?

Did you researching the problem at the AutoDesk Discussion Groups? I believe there is a forum related just to printing/plotting as well as the general AutoCAD 2009 forum?

Have you ever been able to sucessfully plot to a PDF? If so, when did this problem you are currently having first occur?

A bit more detail would be helpful and might elicit further input from other forum members.

BTW, welcome to the CADTutor forum gamefreak.

1. I do not have a printer installed on this machine.

2. Yep, I have service pack 1 installed

3. I haven't been able to find any similar issues on the autodesk forums

4. I can successfully plot a PDF, but the problem is that my text shows up bloated and fuzzy in the PDF document.

Would it help if I uploaded the DWG/PDF so everyone can see what im talking about?

I looked at both. The drawing, as expected, looks fine. The only part of the PDF that looked fuzzy were some of the zeros in the top wheel (white through blue background range). The remainder looked fine. Maybe it depends on the resolution of the monitor the image is being viewed on. You're not actually printing the image you're just viewing it. Right?

I read, "no printer installed." He's only viewing the *.pdf file.

The *.pdf file looks fine, clean, to the average viewer. 'Course, this also has a bit of dependency on the monitor being used.

Yep. No printer installed. Makes me wonder how critical this really is since, if viewing on a monitor only the resolution can be changed to "clear" things up a bit. Maybe he has a more discerning eye than we do.

I've viewed it on a multitude of resolutions (up to 1900x1200) and monitors, and I still get the "fuzz" around the numbers.

Take a look at a PDF plotted with Primo PDF as opposed to the built in one AutoCad gives us. As far as the numbers go, there is no fuzz.

Today printed it out from AutoCad on a HP DesignJet 130, and it looks fine. Kinda ridiculous I cant get a nice quality redistributable copy, but whatever.

You've got to ask yourself "How critical is this?" Have you had any complaints from the people you've sent it to? Otherwise, you're going to end up driving yourself crazy. Unless you have nothing better to do.
