Selective section view

I'm modeling a concrete beam in 3D, and want to show a 3D section view. I've created a section plane, however it's cutting my rebar as well as the concrete beam, but I only want it to cut the concrete beam. How can I selectively section the beam, but leave the rebar hanging out in space?

Sometimes it's easier just to do things the hard way :-)

In a seperate drawing, slice your concrete beam but not your rebar.

do you actually want a 3d view of the beam with the concrete sliced but the rebar not?

If you use Section it will create a 2d line sketch of whatever plane you choose. Since your rebar is a different layer than your beam you can just delete that from your sketch. There may be an option for 3dclip that can only clip one object, but ive never tried to do that.

If you use slice and only select your beam you can slice it, and just place the other half on another layer you can turn on/off. once done you can union the two back together.
