    A bit tricky but try to use a helix as a path to either sweep or extrude a profile.

    Ok here's one way.
    1. draw up a helix,
    2. then a circle with a desired radius of those spiral carvings.
    3. sweep the circle along the helix.
    4. afterwards Polar Array the swept solid with the number of spiral carvings.
    5. union the arrayed solids then slice the top and bottom off to have flat top and bottom edges.
    6. draw and extrude a circle to fill the spiral solid. then Union em all.

    i was going to say the same thing as nocturn only draw all of your circles first and sweep them all at once.
