Can anyone recommend a laptop with a screen and specification suited to CAD. (Or is it better to keep away from laptops)

best to keep away from laptops if possible mate. you're gonna need a reasonably high spec machine for cad work & this will cost you a fortune as a laptop.

it really depends on your budget but you wont get anything cad worthy for less than £1000 & even then that would be entry level. desktops are much better value for money

I have an HP Compaq 8710w mobile workstation and I love it. Costly though and very heavy. Suits me well...

A laptop that cost more than $1500 and above could handle it.
then again go for standard specs, not just the minimum required for CAD. 2.0GHz dual core processor and 2GB RAM is at least what it must have

    My IBM Thinkpad™ works great!
Screen is crystal clear, processor is fast.

You can check eBay for used pricing.

I also use two desktops but, sometimes prefer my "Brick." "Brick" is the nickname pinned on Thinkpad™ laptops.

Screen is smaller indeed, but crystal clear.

My desktop monitor, wall mounted, is a 36" LCD.
I do enjoy the BIG monitor however, for some unknown reason I do like the Thinkpad™!

In the office, desktop. Out of the office, Thinkpad™.

    Or this desktop!
