Create 2 SPHERES, the larger is with the outer radius of the stool, one smaller than the other in order to make a shell off the larger sphere to create the thickness of the stool.
next make a square with the dimensions of the stool(the violet cube in the drawing), position it at the center of the sphere shell
then use INTERSECT on the 2 solids.
    VOILA.
Thats just one method, ,maybe someone will post his own routine.

you can also make the stool by using 4 arcs or 4 splines and doing an edge surface(edgesurf) between them. Nocturnes method is perfect if you need a solid and its a perfect sphere.

Are you just drawing a representatio nof this? or are you trying to acurately model it?

i just want to note that if you are going to be doing solid editing i would draw it the way nocturne showed you above. but i agree, draw it both as a solid model and surface model to show the empolyer you can find multiple solutions
