Free AutoCAD 2008 with purchase of 2009?

Hello all!

I was looking through some web pages a few weeks ago and came across one that stated that w/ the purchase of AutoCAD 2009, that upon request a company could recieve a licensed copy of AutoCAD 2008 to give to their employee's as a training tool. I can't find the web site again to check on it, and short of waiting on hold to speak w/ someone from Autodesk, thought I would check here first!

Has anyone else heard of this? Or is this just one of those good ol' fashioned rumors?

I don't know about the offer you speak of but if you have AutoCAD on subscription you can now also have as many "home" versions as you have licenses for. Under this scheme you can only run of them at a time so may not be practical as a training tool.

Be aware that all these terms vary from country to country so the advice you get given here might not be correct for where you live.

yeah, that's license transfere, been doing that for a while, this supposed to be full license for each (from what I can remember)

I haven't seen that offer and I think you are confusing things. With subscription, if you purchase 2009 you can ask for a copy of 2008. This would be for use in your office.

Also with subscription you can apply for a home use license and autodesk will allow an employee to use the program at home, it will be authorized through autodesk. This is much different than the license transfer you are thinking of as you don't have to do the sign in - sign out license part with this program. Limitations still apply to the home copy, mainly that only work for the company is allowed and it can't be accessed at the same time as the office copy.

I will try to find that location, I understand what you are saying now, but from what I was reading (best I can remember) it was not a home version. I will let you guys know when I find it.

We do this in our office, it has given me hours upon hours of CAD filled fun (yea, I know its a sad thing lol) I have setup the company template files for use with Autocad Architecture, created my own personal projects (doing this as part of the training) and just plain fiddled around with autocad to figure out new things.

double check your ELUA to make sure they allow this in your country. They did some minor changes to it from 08 to 09 which in the 09 ELUA it states that the second computer must also be company owned. In the 08 version they were vague on where that second installation may go.
