Hi guys,

our customers want to have a lot of drawings with inch dimensions. I'm the man who should convert all the old drawings to the new style. The dimensions should look like 22.13" (562.12mm). For now we have have only 562.12 in metric system.

Is there a way to to this automatically?

yes

goto your dimension style(s) and turn on dual dimensioning. You will need a conversion factor (25.4 or whatever 1/25.4 is) and all should update. You may need to drag some dimensions around to make more room but generally its painless.

Hi again,

now i have created this without your last trick:

22.13" [562.12mm]

Is there a way to change the brackets?

I changed all this stuff in my main dimstyle for linear and diameter dimensions. i found an option in express/dimensions/import and export dimstyle. But when i try to import the dimstyle in another dwg nothing happens. There is a new dimstyle in the dimstyle-options dialog, but thats it. Any ideas?

make sure your crrent dimstyle is the new one, type dim, then update, then cross every thing in the drawing (enter). they should all update no?

Doesn't work. When I do this all of the dimensions get very small and nothing else happens. But I think thats a problem produced by the guys who made the drawings...

But what about the [] Brackets for the alternative unit. Is there a way to change them into ()?

Thanks

I never use alternative unit to change mm,cm,m to inches or inches to mm,cm,m coz i hate this [] Brackets. You can do with "scale factor" under

"primary units" tab from Dim style Dialog box. Then you can see dim with mm suffix.I did for you sample dwg with 3 dim style.(mm,ft,ft with scale factor) and show sample.Pls check mate!

Dimension settings for alternate units without the [ brackets ]

NOTE the values for: DIM SUFFIX mm\X\f ALT PREFIX ; ALT SUFFIX \f

Do you know where I can find a list of these variables? I searched through the AutoCAD help files but can't find them.

I am not sure, but if you have something you are looking for, I can try to help.

( ) instead of [ ]

In the Primary Units set:

dim Suffix: = mm\X\f

In the Alternate Units set:

dim Prefix = ;(

dim Suffix = )\f

  • Remove mm if you do not want it to say mm after your dimension. This is for metric units

.......................................................................................

Remove [ ]

In the Primary Units set:

dim Suffix: = mm\X\f

In the Alternate Units set:

dim Prefix = ;

dim Suffix = \f

Note: If your dimension has fractions in front and in back of your dimension and it is not suppose to be there, change your font!
