nicholias
Hi im a furniture design student and i've recently been creating a template of a chair in Acad Architecture to be cut via Genio on a cam machine, trouble is my side view template is giving me grief. I managed to make some slats for the model into p-lines but when I try with my side template of the chair it refuses. I've tried various techniques and there doesn't appear to be any overlapping or gaps if anyone could have a peek at my drawing file and point me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated nick

rkent
your drawing is done with splines, you will need to convert them to plines first. Dotsoft.com has a free utility to do this. You can use WMFOUT and then WMFIN to do a conversion, scaling will be required. You can draw a rectangle around the side piece, then use BPOLY to create a pline, then discard the splines. nicholias
I checked out dotsoft and found a free download called spl2pl.vlx, it claims to converts splines to polylines. I saved it but theres no description of how to install or use it etc?
nocturne00
use appload to load the VLX file. here's a link on how to use them http://www.cadtutor.net/faq/questions/28/How+do+I+use+an+AutoLISP+routine%3F
rkent
If you want to just use this occassionally just drag the vlx file from the file explorer window onto an open autocad drawing. Then simply type spl2pl. Using appload will load it every time you open autocad which you might want to do or you might not need it every time. nicholias
Ok much appreciated for the input I have now used spl2pl to convert the drawing into polylines however the trouble now lies with the lines not wanting to join under pedit command, (edit)to be more specific the top section where i have created slat gaps(edit) I am quite new to this software so sorry for being a bit slow 8by4 NIN0084 212.dwg

Thats not entirely correct. using appload will load it on the current drawing session only. It is only when you use the startup suite option to load it from there will they load everytime you start a drawing.
CarlB
I couldn't join polylines either - got the "non-coplanar" message. Even though z values are zero, some objects have an "extrusion direction" other than 0,0,1 (tells you that when you "list" it), I believe that's the problem. Objects must have been created while in differing UCS's. You might try creating a closed polyline using the "boundary" command. I tried, it worked for a smaller region, but on a large one it sent my AutoCAD spinning...
nicholias
ok resolved the issue, I opened up a previously saved version of the drawing and worked the spl2pl appload from dotsoft, it marginally worked and i broke and rejoin others gaps with polylines and then pedit, thanks for the help guys much appreciated shall post a image of the production ready sample once its cut, now its time to use genio software!
