jlovgren
Hello all, What I am trying to do is calculate the correct length of my flat pattern part, so it will match outside dimensions required after bending. Will AutoCAD calculate this formula for me depending on my material thickness and bend radius? Thank you, JLovgren
stevsmith
I stumbled across this site a few years ago when I used Solidworks. Hope it helps. http://www.sheetmetalguy.com/bend-allowance.htm
jlovgren
Stevsmith, Thank you for the great link! But are you telling me that AutoCAD will not calculate bend dimensions into a flat pattern dimension?
mdbdesign
Sorry but NO
stevsmith
Im afraid not my friend. Simply because AutoCAD is not a parametric modeler. You would require either, Solidworks, AutoDesk Inventor or Radan CAD/CAM. Although I heard through the grapevine that AutoCAD 2010 will have this.... stevsmith
To be honest a quick cheat with sheetmetal bends are to use the outside dimensions to addup the overall length. Unless you work to high tollerance. (fabricator to trade, so I know the cheats.)
Raggi_Thor
Take a look at AutoPOL, I am not selling it However, I do sell Alibre Design that include a sheet metal module with unfolding.
