I'm not sure I understand what you mean but it sounds like you should be using stretch rather than scale.

Hoping the community can point me in the right direction here:
I'm trying to create dynamic blocks, problem is i've been out of cad and into programming for a while now so i'm rather rusty.
The task at hand is a door block that scales up proportionally on both the x and y axis without increasing the width of the actual door itself. the door recess would be the changing factor.
Thanks,
Ollie.

I agree with Dave. Typical design for a dynamic door block usually has a linear stretch for the opening, a scale action on the arc representing the swing, and a seperate linear stretch for the frame to match the wall depth.
There are also a few tutorials available on line. Such as those shared in this thread.
Just because you're, doesn't mean wrong is all that's
.
Could you upload a sketch or drawing showing exactly what you want. Then we may be able to help.

I think he's doing a dynamic block of a door at 1:1 when you insert it to the wall you can change it to what size (scale factor) you intent to make. Correct me if I wrong just made a comment. But the last part can't figure it out?
