uddfl
If you have access to a newer version, you'll have the opportunity to learn newer features and be up to date as you learn, but you can perfectly learn the basics with any version. Welcome to the boards.
ReMark
Learn the latest version you can legally get your hands on. 30-day trial versions are available for AutoCAD 2009 at the AutoDesk website. If you are a student then there are free-for-students versions of some of the AutoDesk vertical products (not plain vanilla AutoCAD). Another option would be the LT version of AutoCAD if all you are interested in is mainly 2D. What is your situation? Are you a student? What field are you working in now or interested in working?
