this is me. I believe im good

Depends on your operating system and whether you're doing 3D or not.

If you're just doing 2D work on a 32 bit system, you should be ok.

Does this problem happen in every drawing or just certain ones?

Have you tried Purging and Auditing your drawings, including all xrefs?

What OS are you running?

What are the specs on your graphics card?

Have you purged Regapps?

Is Display digital signature information turned off?

Do you have an overloaded scale list?

Are you using Truetype fonts?

Have you tried lowering your hardware acceleration settings?

I have the same problem with 2009 my comp crashes alot while running it, sometimes with just it opened and sometimes with mulitiple things open. doesnt seem related to file size 99% of work is 2d and I only open 3d to help with plotting.

only 2G of RAM...... don't think my machine would even boot up with that ;-)

I was freezing/crashing with 4 gig so I went to 8 and problem(s) solved

Card is radeon x1300/x1550 256MB

No to scale list

Yes to truetype

Regapps.... what is it?

acceleration settings medium.

This happens first time I open a blank or template drawing.

I did not get this on 2008

Nigel: I suppose you also downloaded and installed the hotfix for file open, close and save problems having to do with AutoCAD 2009?

I have a difficult time understanding how people have so many problems. I'm referring to your statement about updates. Updates usually fix more problems than they create. How old is this computer? Do you make it a habit to defrag, clean out junk files, occassionally give the interior of your computer a good dusting and cleaning, use Regclean, keep up to date with your antivirus program to avoid viruses, worms, bugs, etc.? Do you install and uninstall a lot of other software? Is the system overclocked?

"hotfix for file open, close and save ?"

No updates at all I did try them but the machine crashed several times, my drawing are not that big, only 2d mainly.

Hanging/ freezing only happens on first boot up for a hour or two

I am sure R2010 will run with no problems at all and every thing in the garden will be rosy

If your system is having trouble running 2009 then you are not going to solve your problems when 2010 is released.

Hanging and freezing on boot up is not an AutoCAD problem. It is probably a hardware problem or something to do with Windows itself. When was the last time you used a Registry cleaner like Regclean?
