How to Draw plumbing piping in AutoCAD ?

Recommended Posts

Anybody has experiences in:: how to draw piping in AUTOCAD?

Are you just use line (linetype and lineweigh)? Do you use polyline for piping?

Is there any programs that I can draw a pipe line, then the programs will insert the fittings automatically? (like 45, 90 elow, clean out, and Tee,..)

thank you

Try one of these libraries:

Pipework & Structural Steel http://www.3DCADMax.com

3D AutoCAD Pipework – http://www.HerculeDesign.com

Or if you'd prefer 2D:

2D AutoCAD Pipework - http://www.3dcadmax.com/2DPipeFittingsAutoCAD.htm

Autodesk also offer AutoCAD MEP - http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=3290681

AutoCAD MEP is the front runner in high end piping programs. Inventor Professional has a pipe program that is impressive but has a very steep learning curve if you are from an AutoCAD background.

It's an expensive program but I'll swear by it; Bently AutoPlant. It's database driven and that end is a bit confusing. But it has 3D piping components, you can generate isometric drawings, bills of materials etc.

MEP 2009 is pretty good too once you get past the curve.......

and it's a STEEP curve!

corrently the "plumbing" portion is still in 2D, but the 'piping' part rocks in 3D
