cadboi08
Hi. I need some help with this material/structure. What I want to do is turn all those white edges into tubes with thickness, rather than just lines and then assign a material to that. Is there anyway to do that - somehow extract the edges and turn them into 3d tubes? I would also like to assign different materials to the blue planes which I am able to do atm with the multi-subobject material. Using vray on 3DS 2009 Thank you
Cad64
I think your best bet would be to enable your vertex snap and trace over those white lines with splines. Then you can select the splines, go to the Modify panel, Rendering section, and check the boxes to "Enable in Viewport" & "Enable in Renderer". This will give the splines thickness and turn them into tubes.
cadboi08
Cheers. I've been doing that, but is there a way to extract the vertexes as splines so that I don't have to do trace over all the edges (there might be hundreds later on). NuttZ
Try using the Lattice modifier on the plane...it should work.
Cad64
Ok, here's a really easy way to do this. Simply select all of the edges, then go to the Modify panel, under "Edit Edges" and click the "Create Shape From Selection" button. Give it a name, make sure "Linear" is selected and click OK. Now "Hide Selection", select the wireframe edges, and check the boxes under Rendering as mentioned before.

But is there a way to clean up the ends of the tubes from the lattice? Ok, here's a really easy way to do this. Thanks make your Joints the same as size your Struts: Radius Segments That should work....if not then make it an editable poly and move the Vertex in top view to match up, but if you have cylinder tubes it will be very tedious.
