Good book for fastener sizes.

Astroman,

Fasteners mate is a pretty broad topic...

what are you fixing to; steel, wood, masonry, concrete, hollow masonry..?

what is the critical force, tension or shear...?

Anyway those questions aside below is some general info.:)

Since you're from oz, you would have heard of Ramset dynabolts, pretty standard stuff..good for shear, but tru-bolts are better for tension. Ramset chemsets are for when the contractor doesn't have a hope of casting the bolts in the right spot, or maybe it's existing concrete.

Good site plenty of info... http://www.ramset.com.au/

Hilti make a range of alternatives to ramset, but their `hit' system of hollow block fasteners are pretty cool... http://www.hilti.com.au/

Then there is the german 'Wurth' make a hi-tensile beyond the 8.8 grade, but I haven't seen a visible impact in the market yet. but still worth a look. http://www.wurth.com.au/construction.asp

maybe your just after the generic designation and sizes of bolts, like the M12-M24 4.6/s or 8.8/tb sort of stuff which is more up the alley of the Australian standards but the Australian Institute of Steel Construction might help find what your after.

Another good resource is

A quick google turned up these..

Let me know what you are after, I know I didn't recommend a book.:P

Stevsmith: - Thanks for the link to the book, looks like a simple to use guide that could fit in the toolbox with no problems. Will see if I can find someone selling here in OZ.

PS_Port:- re: Not recommending a book... Thats okay the links you have provided are quite handy, will go over them and see what I can come up with. I am new to the design game and I agree the term "fasteners" is a broad area. What I was after was the Metric bolt dimensions for bolts such as M10, M24 etc... I understand there are several different types whittworth etc... ? A list of imperial bolts would be handy also. Mainly after anything for Metal and Wood fixing.

PS. I am not an engineer by a long shot, but learning a great deal from this website and others around me, it's a fun challenge to push ones mind further.
