Intermittant Saving in 2009(long - sorry)

In options you can set how often ACAD saves a drawing. In '09 I get saves at different times that I didn't schedule - often enough that it is very irritating. It seems that almost everytime I do something signifcant like inserting a block, zooming, plotting, etc. it automatically saves prior to executing the command.

I posted this problem in the Autodesk Discussion Group and in AUGI. This issue is pretty much being ignored there; however, I got a post from another user at Autodesk that said they are having the same issues and are in need of help too.

Yes, AutoCAD has problems with every version and I have used many of them (since ver 9), but I really like AutoCAD and it saddens me to see this (2009) version having so many issues.

What I am experiencing is as if autosave is taking it's queue from something other than the selection in Options. This isn't an issue about one drawing it is happening in every drawing I am in, so my assumption is that it is a software problem and not a drawing integrity thing.

We don't use xref's here and we don't have any 3rd party add ons and my incremental percentage is already set to zero. I'm a big saver as well. but being continually interrupted by this saving issue is slowing me down. It's as if there is some internal switch that has nothing to do with autosave that is triggered by ???

Here are some things that I did and it seems to help even though it didn't stop the problem.

1- increased paging file size
2- cleaned out Temp folder
3- downloaded and ran CrapCleaner

I got this at Mike's CAD Monkeys site - it blew my mind when I saw the change right before my eyes. The thing is that ACAD will eventually use more and more memory, so you have to minimize again and again. PIMA

Lots of people are of the opinion that AutoCAD 2009 is about as memory-watertight as a rusty sieve with a hole punched in it, and it’s certainly a major RAM hog, so it was interesting to read this:
First open your Task Manager… switch to Processes and sort by Mem Usage.Then open a large drawing in AutoCAD 2009 (any flavor).. choosing one with several viewports make it even more interesting.
Once opened.. Minimize the complete AutoCAD session window (not just the drawing).
ACAD Memory Usage drops almost 90% once the window is minimized.
Now Reopen the minimized AutoCAD window and the memory returns to a workable level.
The ACAD memory still does a serious memory ramp up during any saving function which is still a problem for us.
This technique seems useful in reclaiming or resetting AutoCAD’s memory usage without restarting.

Even after all this I still have the same problem. There is one other person on the Autodesk forum that is admitting to having the same problem and is waiting "with a worm on his tongue" for a solution.

Any takers on this one?

I would prefer to run with it on - you know how it is - it can be a lifesaver! However I have turned it off - about 10 minutes ago. I will post back with what I learn. Thanks for your response.

Well...I ran with autosave off all day yesterday. Didn't have any intermittant saves, so I guess there is a bug with the autosave feature in ACAD2009 - %$#^&#*@ Autodesk if it ain't broke don't fix it!!! OK I feel better now, but this is definitely a PIMA.

I'm running 2009 and 2010, both with AutoSave enabled, and have experienced no such problems. Are you sure it is not Windows Indexing that is causing the problem?

Ok if feel stupid - don't know what Windows Indexing is can you explain?

Went to indexing service and there is nothing in there.

In Options > Open and Save > File Safety Precautions do you have Full-time CRC Validation checked off? If so, uncheck it.

What is the time frequency between saves?
