double-click for properties and text edit 2008

I've checked previous threads to figure this out and "dcprops" is not an operative command in 2008. Can anyone tell me how to set my variables to get double-click properties with Cntrl Z close and text editing (version 2008 )? Thanks in advance for your help.

Try Tools > Options > User Preferences. Double-click editing or right-click customization...one of the two ought to do it for you.

I think the previous properties screen has been removed from 2008 and is replaced by a "palette" style properties box, which is instigated by the "properties" command. :?
