3D Surface created by a Faro Laser Tracker

Is there a partner package for Inventor that allows Inventor to create/or at least manipulate full 3D surfaces.

We recently purchased a FARO Laser Tracker and will shortly be using it to measure and then ultimately reproduce a full hydraulic turbine with its shaft and runner blades. We have been practicing with it and Inventor using a fan blade.

The problem we are having is that when we import the scanned surface as an iges file nothing shows up once it has been imported.

Any help would be appreciated.

Zip and attach the IGES file here.

Please supply your email and I would be happy to.

I should clarify, there are some lines but nothing selectable.

It is all selectable in the Construction Environment. This geometry can be used for reference purposes, but there is no "magic bullet". A lot of user input is required to create the surfaces.

How much experience do you have with surface modeling?

You might start here

Working with wires to create surfaces in Inventor is essentially the same as it would be in SolidWorks. Have you gone through the surface tutorials in my signature? They are a bit out of date but should be a good start.

You might also check out Ed Eaton's Curvy Stuff DiMonte Group tutorials - written for different SoftWare, but principles are the same.

The first thing you will need to do is Promote the wires from the Construction Environment to the Modeling Environment as needed.
