table cell resizing

i have created a table and i am hoping to keep it at its exact size. The problem is that once i types too much text into a cell it will automatically resize the cell. I was wondering if there is either

a way to prevent it from automatically resizing.

or if

instead to resizing the cell it would just decrease the text size to make it fit.

or

If none of these are possible can i set it so that the cell will expand to the right instead of downward.

These are just three solutions i thought of to my problem if there a better way to accomplish this please let me know.
