Inventor to AutoCAD 2010

I have a stubborn engineer who insists on using Inventor, but we use AutoCAD 2010. Can he save a drawing he created with Inventor to a format that can be opened and edited with AutoCAD 2010?

I think Inventor drawings can be exported to both DWG and DXF file formats. JDM would know for sure.

if you are doing sheet metal you can export face as a dxf. (edit, in flat pattern)

with 3d solids you can save copy as a .sat file and in acad you can use acisin. i cant recall if you can do any direct dwg or dxf file saving in 2010. I doubt it since acad is obsolute since you guys have inventor maybe you should switch over

edit: you can save a drawing file as a dwg or dxf but these are only 2d files.

If he opens up an .IDW and projects a 2d image from his 3d model in Inventor then he can in Inventor save out as a dwg or dxf for you to open in Autocad this will allow you to edit it as you wish using 2d autocad, if yo need the 3d data in autocad he can do as said above by 'shift1313' and save out as a .sat, then import to autocad, you can edit it but you will only have a dumb solid to play with.

Sure and easily, when you see how quickly he does a layout and save it to a dwg you'll drop autocad...fast... But yes, i do this all the time.

I even create assembly from autocad 2D views. You simply place each views in each plan on a inventor part file and you can use your 2D stuff and built inventor models around it.
