I am trying to get ride of the dashed line that is in the weld symbol. I have never see that used before. I believe it is called the Identification line. Any suggestions?
Also I was wondering if any one has tried customizing the bom to meet there company's standards? Is it worth doing or should I stick with the traditional method of filling it in manually? I am trying ultimately have solidworks drive the complete project and these are some of the issues I am dealing with. This is a first for my company.

for your weld bead annotation. Go to your Tools menu, Options, then over to the document Properties tab. On this tab expand Annotations and click on Weld Symbols. Change your weld symbol standard. ANSI doesnt have the dashed leader line like the DIN standard.
There is a section in help that will tell you about saving template files. If you are going to be doing this alot I would open a new sldprt file, change your document properties and save that file as a sldprt template. You can save it as a new name and it will show up on the advanced tab when starting a new document, or you can overwrite the standard one which i dont recommend.
as far as your BOM question I dont know. My industry doesnt require that of me so I have never used it. Hopefully someone else can chime in but there arent many SW users here.
