    Default Problems with loading applications

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

I've been having alot of issues with Civil 3d 2008

Ok first problem is with Vault. Dont really need it here at work since we only have 4 users of Civil 3d. Is there a way to "turn off" Vault w/o removing it from programs. I ask only because our IT are the only ones that can install and remove programs from our computers, and our IT department is slow.
I would go ahead and use this program if i only knew the username and password, server, and database. I've tried using the default login but doesnt work, nor does adminstrator.

    problem 2

If i had the authority to do a clean install of civil 3d i would but i dont.

The default profile "unnamed Profile" has issues
The applications in the civil folder arent loaded when i start up civil 3d

So i go to "appload" and load them from there and here is what i get

    Command: appload
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008\Civil\AeccUiModel.arx cannot find a dll
or other file that it needs.
AcRxDynamicLinker failed to load 'C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D
    2008\Civil\AeccUiModel.arx'
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008\acad.exeUnable to load AeccUiModel.arx
    file.
    Loading AECC Pipe Network UI...
Loading AECC Roadway UI...Successfully loaded 11 files.

Isn't this suppose to to load automatically?

Well the AeccUImodel.arx is the application i need to load, sounds like it has something to do with the tool space pallette. It will not load up for nothing.

My support file search path should be correct and in this order

    C:\Documents and Settings\******_*****\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2008\enu\support
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\support
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\fonts
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\help
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\express
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\support\color
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\Civil
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\Getting Started Guide
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AxUi
    C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008\FDO\bin\com
    C:\Program Files\Raster Design 2008 OE

If im wrong or missing anything please tell me.

had a weird issue with default profile, if i set it as current all my menus would be gone except adobe ones and vault ones and if i typed anything in the command line, civil 3d would close out.

I first discovered this problem when i went the do "menuload" Civil and went to import points and it didnt recognize the command.

    Ok yet another problem
Just FYI im new to civil 3d but not new to AutoCAD, so im just trying to learn how to use this program, anyways

i got tired of trying to figure out how to fix the default profile
so i went to use the "AUTOCAD" profile because i was able to load the civil applications and bring up Toolspace.
I imported some points, created a boundary, i saved my drawing, and than went to rebuild a surface, than i get a Fatal error message and it craps out on me.

I go back to my drawing and i get a message "Fail to get CommCntrManager!"

heres what the command line says

Well, if you are really as clamped down by IT as you say, I'm not sure what you CAN do. If your "<<Unnamed Profile>>" is corrupted, then your best bet is to reinstall. DO NOT use the "AutoCAD" Profile and attempt to appload C3D into it - that WILL NOT work. There are settings in the "AutoCAD" Profile that are incorrect for Civil 3D, and the only way I know of to edit them is via REGEDIT (and editing the Profile via REGEDIT is not recommended, unless you really know what you're doing). And you should not need to appload any of the Civil 3D components, in any case.

The best way to use Civil 3D is to start with the "<<Unnamed Profile>>" as it exists immediate after installation. Then create a new Profile with an actual name, such as "C3D2008", that is a copy of the "Unnamed Profile", and use that as your user profile. Now do all your customizations in this Profile, and change all the Windows shortcuts in your Start menu and on your desktop so that they load your new "C3D2008" Profile when you click on them instead of the "<<Unnamed Profile>>". (As one final note, DO NOT use angle brackets in your Profile name - that's what prevents the "<<Unnamed Profile>>" from being exported and reimported. I have no idea why Autodesk uses the name "<<Unnamed Profile>>", since it creates problems, but it's been like this for many years now.)

well my computer was so screwed up in the first place. it would freeze up if i initiated the plot command, options, delete things off of desktop, right click on shortcut documents, empty recycle bin, open more than 1 document, start a new email, pan and zoom on a pdf, take 3 mins to log in to my computer vs 3 seconds and have some programs that get prompted to end before i shut down like acrodist.exe, F, ctfmon.exe and some others.

had to do a system restore twice to get civil 3d working right and something was wrong with DotNet..it was corrupted.
plus had to defrag my computer

If you're having that many problems, it sounds like your best bet is a hard-drive reformat and complete reinstall of everything.
