Default Problems with Windows XP and AutoCAD

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

This is a general question. Has anyone come across problems with XP and AUTOCAD? I know about the mtext problem, and I believe xp is still screwing up with my AutoCAD even more. Every time I try to open a drawing and it tells me that the drawing is currently in use or is a read-only. I've checked the properties of the file and made sure that it wasn't checked off as a read-only, and no one else is in the drawing. I'm using Windows XP home edition and AutoCAD 14. Please help and thanks in advance.

Got some bad news for you. I think you will find on the autodesk website that autocad versions up to but not including 2002 will not work on xp home.

Hope im wrong, But im sure this is the case.

It should work, it's just that Autodesk will not support them. I do not have XP but I have been told by many people that r14 and 2000 and 2000i will work in XP. I believe you have to install in compatibility mode or something. Maybe ask in the r14 section at the Autodesk message boards.
