By <current> do you mean some number, the last used distance? You can still enter a number at this prompt to get a new offfset distance, or type "t" to get the "through" option.

I have AutoCAD 2005 and was feeling quite confident with it....until today. Somehow the offset got switched from "offset distance or through <current>" to "offset distance or through <through>". Now I cannot set a distance point at all and cannot figure out how to reset the offset command. I hope someone understands my problem and can hlep. Thanks.

I seemed to have entered into <through> and cannot get out of it. I am trying to offset a basic line, for example, by 10'. The offset line shows at the point where I click, not at 10'. At times the command line will show {THROUGH} <through> and others, it will say {THROUGH}<41'-02> or some other obscure number. Does this make any sense?
