Annotation multiple scales

The seeker

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Having recently started a new job using AutoCAD 2007, I want to create a new set of Templates from A3-A0 with the Border and title block in paper space.

Up to now I have made the effort to create both text styles and Dimension styles for the different scales I might use, I.E. a style for 1:10, 1:20, 1:50 etc.

I have decided that I don't want to annotate in paper space due to the fact that if the model needs repositioning then the text/dimensions don't move with the drawing.

I was just wondering if there was a simpler way of creating a template without creating a multitude of styles for annotation?

With thanks and regards

The seeker.

This is always one of those situations where there are multiple ways to do it, but you'll have to kinda find your own way. Here's how we do it at our office:

1st we start out with our most common scales within our template, which honestly are just simply the same Dim Style just copied and the DIMSCALE is adjusted:

Then when we need the rest, they are all saved as a Block in our Tool Palettes, and this is how we "quickly" import the rest of our styles:

Voila. Then the styles are present when needed. 8)

I thought that if the dimensions are associative they should move with the model. Is that wrong?

Isn't creating different text and dimension styles kind of passe' these days with the availability of annotative scaling? Why bother?

Venture has too much invested to go using a newer feature but you (The Seeker) don't.

We've always placed out text and dimensions in our layouts and not in model space. Although I recently completed a tutorial in annotative scaling I can't really see much benefit over the way we currently operate. I won't discount its use in the future should the need arise and at least if a drawing comes from an outside source done this way I'll have a fair idea how to work with it.
