    Default New dwg viewer out

I haven't seen any mention of Autodesk's new dwg viewer before. It's called TrueView and I heard about it this morning and tried it out.

It's very good indeed and mimics Autocad in quite a few respects. You can pan, zoom, access paper space and model space and you have full layer control as well. The plot facility is identical to full Autocad and it's a very big plus for all the guys here who don't have access to Acad and who'd want to plot drawings full size without bothering the cad dept.

The download is freaking huge at, wait for it...109mB! That's gotta be bigger than Autocad itself. Find it here:

Thanks for that Wozza, I came across it a week or so ago but haven't had time to try it out. From your description, it sounds good. A good free drawing viewer from Autodesk is well overdue and my guess is that their hand has been forced by free viewers from other software houses, particularly Bentley. Good news all round.

While a free (for how long ?) viewer is to be welcomed

what is really needed is a freely distributable drawing activex CONTROL for distributing with custom applications.

To be honest I haven't even bothered to download the new viewer as it's way way to much overkill for anything I would ever need... but I may do if there's a free control in there ~ has anyone checked yet ? I can't find any info on it on their site (as usual)
