    Hi
How do I stop autocad from takeing over screen saver files.
They have a .scr file extension and autocad belives this to be a script
extension and takes it over, so when you open the propites dialog of a sreen saver
it opens up as a notepad autocad sript??

Ok, you have to reset the file association for the SCR extension.

To do this, go to My Computer and click on Tools->Folder Options.
    Select the "file types" tab.
    Click "new".
Type "SCR" into the box and then click "Advanced".
It should show "AutoCAD script", if you change this to Screensaver it should fix your problem. If you want to open a AutoCAD script in notepad, you'll either have to use the "Open With" option under your right-click menu or just open the file from within notepad.

Hi, I know it's an old topic but I discovered another solution to this weird problem, perhaps it will be useful to someone

recently after installing AC2008 the scr file extension was taken over by AC, although I fixed it like described above Autocad registred it back as a script files... this was very annoying becouse I use shortcuts to run screensavers and every time I started Autocad I had to fix the screensaver

then on Autodesk Discussion Groups I found a post saying that this is the RegAcad17.dll file that registers file extensions, so I looked inside it and found that there are just strings, I found "s c r" starting at offset 1026Eh

with a simple hexeditor I've changed it to "s s s" and now AC is no more stealing my screensavers and scripts can still be used but with a sss extension
