fatal error: out of memory

greetings and salutations.

working with land desktop 2k6 with raster 2k6 enabled. moving different rasters around and things, I get the dreaded fatal errorut of memory. Rasters are only about 8mb in size each, about 12 of them. Plenty of mem on the system.

sys-specs:
AMD athlon64 3700
2gb mem
dual nvidia 6800GT-sli mode
win xp/sp2
160gb hdd
swap file is currently at 4gb
no virus or spyware (guaranteed on that)

any other suggestions? or possible reasons?

Before it crashes with one of those files type the
command STATUS. Gives a whole load of system
data, maybe somehting will show up.

Or try increasing the swap file etc.

from what I can tell, acad is ignoring the windows paging file. I have set it both to windows managed mode, and also user set of 2500mb-4096mb and it has not made a difference in acad swap file..registry key maybe?
