Default Help opening a file with incorrect or corrupted information

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

    Using AutoCAD 2010.

Can anyone give me some information about opening a file that may contain incorrect or corrupted information?

I try to open a file, it shows a preview in the open dialog window, but when i push the open button, I get the following message:

    Unable to open this drawing.
It contains incorrect or corrupted information.

The RECOVER command may be able to restore undamaged material from this drawing.

When I try the recover command on the drawing, Autocad shuts down part way thru.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bert

Sometimes >>not always<< you can begin with a blank drawing and xref the bad dwg and it will open. May be worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. Told me it may need to be recovered.

The Partial Open helped me once or twice. Also it worth to try importing the drawing in an other software that can open DWGs, like SolidWorks.
It's nice to be nice, but sometimes is nicer to be evil!.
Tip: Please do not PM or email me with CAD questions - use the forums, you'll get an answer sooner.

Have you tried using DWG TrueView?

I tried TrueView also and Microstation.

The only other option I can come up with is that there is some kind of security setting on it.

We are going to contact the originator of the drawing and hopefully they can help.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions.
