cggentry
I don't know if this is possible, but you guys are the ones to ask. Ready...GO!
ReMark
I think that would be dangerous. Make two separate templates.
cggentry
This is for a co-worker who works alot with those crazy Europeans. Are you telling me it's impossible? Or just that it's a bad Idea?
ReMark
I'm not aware of a way to set up a template that would utilize both Imperial and Metric dimensions, etc.
cggentry
Yeah, I didn't really think you could. What happens if you Xref a metric drawing onto an imperial one?
ReMark
Xref a metric into an Imperial drawing and just sit back and enjoy the ride. What happens? Just a little chaos until you get the whole "what scale factor do I use to enlarge or shrink my drawing" thing straightened out. Plenty of posts here at CT on the subject and plenty of opinions expressed on what is the best way to do it.
dbroada
you can set up your dim style to dual dimension but that is about as far as I would go. If you are XREFing or INSERTing have a look at the INS* variables. They will control the scale factor automatically PROVIDED each drawing has its UNITS set correctly. If you don't set your UNITS the INS* variables will make a best guess.
cggentry
Dual Dims would probably work. It'd probably be easier for this guy anyway. As for the XREF thing, the best advice would be "Don't", am I right?
dbroada
not necessarily. It is far easier to XREF a metric drawing into an imperial one as the scale factor of 25.4 is a lot easier to remember than its reciprical. If you have express tools, look into the system variable editor and type INS* in the box. You can see what needs setting to go a long way to reducing your pain. ReMark
Alternate Units would work as far as dimensioning goes. As for the Xref thing, I'd say give it a try. What do you have to lose? If it works the way you want it to then you've helped your friend. If it turns out to be a PITA you've learned something too. A win-win situation right? What scale was the Xref done in? cggentry
There is no XREF yet. It was a hypothetical.
ReMark
That's OK so were my answers.
