AutoCAD Student Edition?

Hi all,

I was told that there is a student edition of AutoCAD available. I think it's a full version of AutoCAD2002 but it's considerably cheaper than the usual commercial version - but you can only buy it if your a student and the license is only for about 2 years.

Anybody know if this is true and if so, where can I get it?

Sure it's true. You can buy the current full edition of AutoCAD educational edition for a fraction of the cost of the real version. Yes it is a timed version but in 2 years there will most likely be a new version so no big deal there. Here is the catch - when ever you print out a drawing it will have a watermark on every side saying that it is a student edition, it will also embed any files saved or created on this version with said mark. This is bad because if you creat a drawing will in school and later want to reuse it it will still have this watermark. Even if you are now using the commercial version. How do I know? have gottenseveral files from consultants that have had this mark when printed.
Here in the U.S. a student can get a 1 yr license for - $153 or a 2 yr for $289.

Yes you do have to be a student and also the product does expire after 2 years.

I have also heard that when you plot it leaves an educational purposes watermark on the plots.Have a look at Autodesks websitethey should have some more info on this.

I have purchased a student version of Autocad some time back from Journey Ed.

Actually, me and a buddy decided to go halves on the cost, and we would load it up on both of our computers, but I got stuck paying the full student price because it had a hardware lock and only the computer with the hardware lock could use it.
Anyway, I have heard there is a way around the "student version" warning that plots on your drawings: Xref the corrupted drawing into a fresh file, then bind it. Manusoft has a shareware that will warn you if you are inserting a block or drawing with the plot-stamp warning:

Something to think about: Solidworks' student version is about half the price of Autocad's student version

get away from the student version!!! the teachers at my school always pressure us to buy it...considering its a lot cheaper - but when u think about it...it won't ever add up to the full version. If you get the full version...it doesn't expire, it won't be that hard to upgrade it, and yes its pricy but its worth it.

i got the acad2004 full version, yeah it hurt the check book , but its worth it!
