Sure it's true. You can buy the current full edition of AutoCAD educational edition for a fraction of the cost of the real version. Yes it is a timed version but in 2 years there will most likely be a new version so no big deal there. Here is the catch - when ever you print out a drawing it will have a watermark on every side saying that it is a student edition, it will also embed any files saved or created on this version with said mark. This is bad because if you creat a drawing will in school and later want to reuse it it will still have this watermark. Even if you are now using the commercial version. How do I know? have gottenseveral files from consultants that have had this mark when printed.
Here in the U.S. a student can get a 1 yr license for - $153 or a 2 yr for $289.

the teachers at my school always pressure us to buy it...considering its a lot cheaper - but when u think about it...it won't ever add up to the full version. If you get the full version...it doesn't expire, it won't be that hard to upgrade it, and yes its pricy but its worth it.
