Multiple Paper Space Layouts for Drawing With Different Layers On

So I've been working on house plans for a friend and although I can do the drawing alright, I'm having trouble figuring out how to create multiple paper spaces (aka sheets) that can have different views of the model space (layers/text).

So I have created all these different paper spaces but whenever i change around which layers are visible in, lets call it say Paperspace A, the view/layers in Paperspace B change as well.

What I would like to do is have different paper spaces so that each floor of the house can have its own paperspace, which would make it easier to print, ect.

My question is, is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it? If not, is there some other method of doing this (i remember seeing something called a sheet manager but haven't looked into it)?

Go into a viewport, start the layer manager, locate a layer you would like to freeze in that viewport, follow the layer row across to the right until you find the freeze vport column and pick the icon to freeze. Repeat.

If you don't have too many layers you can also use the layfrz express tools tool and pick objects on layers in the viewport to freeze.

I found the viewport freeze option in the layer manager and did exactly what you described.

However when i change tabs to another layout and then click into another viewport, change the layers visible, then viewport freeze those layers, the layers in the original layout and original viewport are gone. I'm not sure what is happening. Are the different viewports linked together somehow?

OK, describe in detail how you are doing the part where you "change the layers visible". It doesn't sound like you are using the vp freeze column in the layer manager. I have never had this happen the way you describe.

Attach a drawing with two vp and a few layers that you have frozen with vp freeze and we can take a look to see if there it can be duplicated.

Ok, i double click the viewport in the layout named Main Floor Dimensions then i change my layer state to Main Floor Dimensions so that i'm only seeing the main floor plan and the dimensions. Next I enter the layer manager and sort by layers that are visible. I scroll all the way over to the right to a column called VP Freeze and freeze all the layers that are not visible.

Next I go over to a tab labeled Layout 1. In this layout, i double click into the viewport there. I would like this layout to contain all the layers visible in the "Garage Apartment and Bonus Room" layer state, basically the garage apartment walls, bonus room walls, and the dimensions associated. Again i click the layer manager, go to VP freeze, freeze all the unwanted layers, then exit out.

But when i go back over to the "Main Floor Dimensions" tab, nothing is how I left it.

I'm trying to attach the file but it is something like 600kb and the limit is 200kb. How would i resize it so that i can attach it here?

Check your layer manager for the settings shown in the attached. My guess is one of these is unchecked.

You should have all on and freezing only the ones you don't want in an active viewport in an active layout.

Also, don't need your entire file - simply make up a dummy example the exhibits the same behavior you are seeing. It could have as few as two layers with as little as one line on each layer and two layouts.

Isn't that simple?

So this was it, I knew it was probably something simple and I was just having a disconnect with how i see something working and how Autocad functions.
