MarcoW
Today I encountered a big problem: one of the drawings that I have been working on lately, and has grown to be a big project with many xrefs, seemed to be damaged. The drawing didn't open allthough AutoCAD did not crash. Odd... I decided to let the program (AutoCAD 2008 ) run, and waited 6 minutes. Then the drawing opened as if nothing happened. But copy and paste in the drawing does once again resolve in waiting 6 minutes. I have recovered and audited each file, the drawing itself and all the xrefs. Nothing changed. I was stuck... The strange thing is that the files separate do open, but in combination they do not. I opened the file on another machine, in AutoCAD 2010 and the same happend. But I noticed a small "message" on the command line. All I could read (for a brief moment) was "excessive scales". This I put in the google search engine and I found this helpfull thread. I opened each drawing again and manually reset the scalelist to default by doing this: Command: -scalelistedit Enter option [?/Add/Delete/Reset/Exit] <Add>: r Reset scale list to defaults? [Yes/No] <No>: y Scale list reset to default entries. Enter option [?/Add/Delete/Reset/Exit] <Add>: e Command: Then save the drawings and opened the main file again. ALL FIXED !! I think I will put thsi in my acaddoc.lsp for I do not use annotation scales. Because I was really afraid of losing a big deal of work and now have found the solution I thought it would be a good thing to post and share. Hope it helps if needed! (I am sorry if my post is in the wrong subforum buth this seemed the right spot to me.)

JeepMaster
Funny this came up. We are having the same issue after we switched to 2008. This is an old bug that's been fixed back in 2008. Make sure you have the latest service pack installed and hotfixes. If you are like us using 64bit vista and can't install the updates, then you should make those commands into a lisp and make it run at startup like you said AND run it after you insert or reload an xref. That's because it re-inserts the xref scales after each xref is inserted/reloaded. The scale list just rebuilts up again!

Putting it in the acaddoc.lsp like I said works form me. @ Jeepmaster: I believe it will work for the most times for me. If not, I now know where to seek for the problem.
