Always do the Hex extrusion first.
Then the Extrude(s) taper intersection(s)
Then finish the part cylindrical shaft(s).
Your other option is to do a Revolve - Cut on the hex.

How do i place a edge on the top/bottom nut section on this stem.I tried by using Extrude command and selecting Intersect + 45 degree angle Taper. When i used this combination it places the Taper on the nut but removes the rest of the part. Can this be done or do i need to create the Nut and Taper first and then do sketches/Extrude for the rest.
Cheers....Pete
