Inventor 2011 to AutoCAD

Hello,

I am using Inventor 2011. Our company does a lot of sheet metal laser cutting. So we send AutoCAD drawings to the manufacturer. I know how to tranfer the drawing from Inventor 2011 to AutoCAD. However, all the drawings end up on the Layout page in AutoCAD.

Our manufacturer requires all drawings on the Model Page instead. So I end up drawing the 2D sheet metal on the Model page which for me is a waste of time.

Is there a way to export the drawings from Inventor 2011 right to the Model page in AutoCAD.

Thanks in advance.

Go to Save As,

Select Save Copy As,

In the dialog box in Save as type select AutoCAD Drawings

Click Options... button

Select AutoCAD file version, go to next,

Under Export Options, Data Scaling, Select the scale that suits your need:

Base View Scale - Model Space

Sheet Scale - Model Space

Full Scale (1:1) - Model Space

It is are probably defaulting to a layout scale right now.

I'm on 2010 right now, but I would imagine 2011 is the same.

Export the flat pattern face from ipt (not idw).

That's how I do it for our waterjet... easy and fast.

Thanks very much to all those who posted/replied above.

You have very likely just solved a very similar and serious problem for me as well that has stumped me for a day and a half (my problem was exporting sheet metal folded object from Inventor to Autocad Mechanical model space and currently ending up with it in layout space only with inability to edit/ copy etc.). I will have to try this as unfolded part as directed above.

For anyone wondering, The easiest way to do it in Inventor 2013 that i have found is to right click on the flat pattern in the parts list to the left and then choose "save copy as" for some reason file>save copy as wont work (atleast not for me)

There are two different questions being asked in this thread - one is for 3D model (folded) and the other is for flat pattern.

There are two different solutions for flat pattern - the usual output needed is 2D, but flat pattern can also be saved as 3D.

So therefore several different ways of saving - Save As, right click on part of flat node in browser, or right click on part or flat face in graphics window. Depends on what is needed as output.

I think others added additional variations on the original question rather than starting new threads.

In any case, anyone coming across this one in a future search will now know that there are different techniques depending on what they really want to do.
