Metric & Imperial Scale

I have been opening old drawings from 2006, 2007, etc in MEP 2010 and I am finding that the scale could be metric, imperial or both. The units are set to metric so how come I'm seeing imperial ones as well or instead of?

Could this be because the drgs were done in old cad versions?

Is there a global setting that we should be setting?

Some CAD users elected to depict alternate dimensions. It is an option found in your Dimension Styles.

No sorry, perhaps I was unclear. The scale element I'm talking about relates to the scale of the `layout` as in 1:100, etc. For some reason, some of the drawings are only enabling me to set an imperial scale like 1/82 = 1`0" rather than 1:100, etc which is frustrating.

Any clues

if there is a list of unusual scales or not what you're after you can add your own.

still don't understand why it would happen on some drawings and not others.

It happens because someone took the time and effort to reference both metric and imperial scales in the scale list. They probably thought it would be advantageous to the way they work. What one user finds acceptable may be considered confusing by another.

Thats how the standard template where i works set up - confuses the heck outta me though, so if i know i'm gonna be the only cad tech drafting that drawing i immediately delete all the imperial scales.

and afterwards if i'm wrong i just click on a button provided for us in tool pallets and re-import the template without losing any work . . . maybe autodesk could add this as a standard feature . . . .
