Alaskachick
I am working with a line of points based on a surveyed power line. I want to build a surface using the elevations of the points. The kicker is that they are very linear (power poles, after all, are all in a line). I want to copy & offset the points 50 ft on either side of the surveyed points to create an area to create the surface from. As it is right now I get a knife edge surface that is not useful. If there is a better way to approach this, please enlighten me! Thanks
BIGAL
If you offset the line then chances are its at zero elevation. If just want a long section along the poles then just add 4 points 2 at each end the long section will still be correct so longs as the alignment goes through each pole. The only time it will be wrong is if you do a parrallel alignment.
sinc
Did your field crews use linework coding? In other words, do you have the points connected with a Survey Figure (or 3D Polyline)? If so, you can use the Stepped Offset command to create offset lines on each side, and use those to create a surface. Just keep in mind that this isn't the same thing you would get from a real topo survey of the strip of land.
