Default How do I make dim lines invisible to end point snap?

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

If I'm not careful the end point snap will pick up a dim/ext line and not the part drawing line when putting in dimensions.

I've dug around in the settings to try and find something with no luck.
I don't CAD for a direct living but use it as an aid as a machinist.

    Using both R14 and 2002

    TIA

Not to sure i get the question

Have you set up layers and added the dims to the dim layer so you can turn them on and off as you please?

    or maybe

Try changing the SELECTION and DRAFTING options

OPTIONS>SELECTION TAB and change the pick box to a larger size

Tip use the zoom to select or when adding dims.

If in doubt scale and don't ask!

Well my main problem is that I don't zoom in enough and pick up a dim line and not a part line when adding dims. I have been getting better with layers and have a layer named as DIMS. But I still need it on as I'm still adding dimensions.

I would just like to find a way that I can not snap to any part of the dimension. Is there a layer or line setting I could use for dims so they can't be snapped on?

I know that a drafting software that our CNC programers use will not allow this to happen.

I hope that clears it up alittle more.

If the main problem is you cannot zoom in enough the the answer is to regen with it stops zooming in ..

zoom in till it stops and type regen in the command line. then you should be able to zoom in even more.

    Hope this helps

Try to change your dimstyle so that the dimline ends right on the end of the dimensioned line.
It's nice to be nice, but sometimes is nicer to be evil!.

    nice idea fuccaro

and on that it gave me another idea , you could change your DimStyle settings (format>dimension style>modify>lines and arrows tab click extension lines to say RED then u cannot go wrong,
    i hope.

Hey Thanks. That sounds just like what I'm looking for.

"This software can filter entities under cursor to calculate osnap point. In other words, can exclude entities from osnap. "

Thats extactly what I was trying to say

This is one of the things I love about Autocad Mechanical...osnaps don't detect dims by default...although it can be changed.

It's just one little thing, but when my Mechanical wasn't working for a while (I had to use plain Autocad)...this drove me crazy on a daily basis.

Well I got the alxdosnapfilter loaded and running but I can't seem to get it to work.

All the commands are going in and the mode is on (trying to filter "dims" name layer) but its not working. The read me file is not much help.

Anyway now that I've been pointed in the right direction I've been able to search and find Flatland http://www.caddzone.com/acadxtabs/flatland.htm

Which is up and running ok.

    Thanks
