I'm using AutoCAD 2005 (full version).
When I open files that I've received from other people, sometimes when the file is opening I am prompted to "select shape file", and the one listed is one I do not have. I just hit cancel and the drawing opens anyway, but everytime I add a block to the drawing, the same prompt comes up, and it gets annoying. I've tried purging the drawing, but nothing happens. Is there anything I can do?

the "best" thing to do is get the shape file sent to you. You either have some special text or (more likely) a externally defined line type. It could even be defined but not used within a block they have sent you.
I am sure there are ways of finding the offending item but I have always done it the long way. Keep deleting things and purging untill the problem goes away. Then the offending item was in the last thing you deleted. Fix it in there and start again as it may not be in just one object. If they have sent you a border or logo I would start there.
