ziofel
Is it possible to trim a block without exploding it? Also is it possible to explode a block and have it maintain its properties? Thanks
eyde
Use clip command
ziofel
Could you expand on that a bit please. Where do I find that one? I am using Autocad 2008.

profcad
There is another tool named CLIPIT. It on the Express Menu->Modify->Extended Clip.
ziofel
Typing CLIPIT in command line asks to select object but will not let me select a block. Keeps saying invalid selection.
lpseifert
The Clip command wasn't introduced until 2010
eyde
Under Using shows 2010, but later After I answerd came back and said he/she was using 2008.
ziofel
Nevermind I will use the superhatch command. I have to add a couple of lines to close boundary but works faster than copying the block over and over.
profcad
When using CLIPIT, you have to select the cliping object first, then the block. It works fine on 2005, so it should work in 2008. Command: CLIPIT Pick a POLYLINE, CIRCLE, ARC, ELLIPSE, or TEXT object for clipping edge... Pick an IMAGE, a WIPEOUT, or an XREF/BLOCK to clip.. ziofel
Will this not work with a line? Does it have to be a POLYLINE, CIRCLE, ARC, ELLIPSE, or TEXT object for clipping edge?
profcad
It will not work with a line. Draw a closed polyline around the part you want keep. Then run the command.
ziofel
Thanks. extra work but a lot less than exploding and worrying about it that way.
rkent
XCLIP should work, I think CLIP is just an alias for XCLIP added in 2010.
ziofel
Ok, how do you use XCLIP? I can' t seem to make it work. Basically trying to CLIP insulation inside stud wall. _______________ |XXXXXXXXXXXX|XX X = insulation _ = wall boundary as a line Crude but should point out what I need to do. CLIP insulation at second | mark. That way it ends up like this. _______________ |XXXXXXXXXXXX| Thanks
rkent
Maybe you would be better off with a routine for drawing insulation. Do a search on the web for batt.lsp, or insulation +lisp
qball
dynamic blocks with array and stretch work for Batting as well. For me anyway, some might require more flexibility with scales, etc.
