    Default Snapping Troubles

I'm currently having a problem when snapping to the intersection of two lines. Currently working on a paving pattern on a project's streetscape and have drawn the score joints by snapping to our xref'ed base plan. All of these lines are in the same plane with a Z-coordinate of 0. In comparison, if I just draw two intersecting lines in no-mans land, without snapping to the xref, there are no problems and I'm able to complete the task. I'm using AutoCAD 2006 but remember having this issue in 2002 as well. Thanks for any insight you might have. Cheers!

wish I could post something here to help, but I'm thinking it may be a Fri the 13th poblem since I'm having a similar issue with not being able to slect an intersection of a couple of lines that contain a hatch in them. Same drawing that I posted my hatching issues from.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with the hatch boundaries somehow. FYI I'm drawing on top of an xref as well.

Welcome to the forum. From my past experience with AutoCAD osnap, it can do weird stuff on certain condition.

    1. If you set the xref layer to defpoints and freeze the defpoints, the xref will appear but you can't snap anything to it.

    2. If the drawing is set too small, metric drawing unit set to meter with less than 0.0254 calibur, sometimes osnap doesn't snap to end points of a line. The solution to this would be to scale the drawing by 1000 or work on millimeter unit instead of meter.

    3. If you drawn a Xline to the length of the drawing. Sometimes Osnap like nearest doesn't pick up any points along the xline. I would assume this is a bug.

    4. Hatch snapping doesn't snap properly. I believe AutoCAD 2004 was the first to have the option to turn off snapping to hatch. You can turn it on through the option menu.

    5. Intersecting line looks intersect on plan, but osnap doesn't pick it up. For solution, I would use Apparent intersect osnap instead of intersect. Apparent intersect picks up intersection in 2 different z-coordinate line and assume an intersection happens within that point.

    6. AEC objects. Sometimes consultant uses Autodesk desktop product which produce AEC objects. In some cases, you can't snap to the AEC object unless you have an object enabler plugin installed.

    Hope this helps.

Sometimes having too many snaps set can cause weird affects...try using the SHIFT/RIGHT CLICK to access running osnaps popup menu and choose Intersection from it...this temorarily over rides the normal osnaps.
